Home Beauty Routine: Summer vs. Winter Essentials

Home Beauty

Your Home Beauty Routine –

why Summer/Winter are different?

Your Home Beauty skincare blog with great lifestyle tips and complete skincare routine. Seasonally from Winter to Summer.

With drastic changes in our Seasons from temperature to sun exposure you should notice how much your skin feels different. Your skin feels the effect from the cold Wintery winds to the hot Summer days.

If you live a in a very hot climate like Queensland Australia. You know that we sweat a lot in Summer time. So our pores block up a lot more with oil, sweat, dirt and pollution.

Our Winters even though are not very cold at all. Our windy days can be very drying on our skin. So what exactly do you need to change when it comes to your Home Beauty Routine

Home Beauty Summer

Beauty Skincare – For Summer

Sun, heat, and humidity create a whole new set of issues. Your skin’s oil production may go into overdrive, leading to:

  • Increased oiliness and shine
  • Clogged pores and breakouts
  • Sun damage and hyperpigmentation
  • Sweat and grime buildup

Your Summer Mission: Cleanse, Protect, and Lighten Up.

1. Cleansing: Refresh and Purify
You can bring back a gentle gel or foaming cleanser to effectively remove sweat, oil, and sunscreen without being harsh. Double cleansing is still your best friend for thoroughly clean skin at night.

2. Toning: Soothe and Balance
A refreshing, alcohol-free toner can help remove any last traces of oil and calm the skin.

  • Look for ingredients like: Witch Hazel (alcohol-free), Green Tea, Cucumber, or Salicylic Acid (for acne-prone skin).

3. Moisturizing: Go Lightweight
A thick cream can feel heavy and greasy in the summer. Switch to a lightweight, oil-free lotion or a gel-based moisturizer. These provide hydration without clogging pores.

  •  Look for ingredients like: Hyaluronic Acid (it’s great year-round!), Niacinamide, and Aloe Vera.

4. Exfoliation 1 or 2 Times Weekly Treat: For normal/oily/combination skin use twice a week. For dry/dehydrated/mature skin once a week

5. Mask Weekly Treat – Oil Balancing  Mask/Hydrating Mask: A weekly mask can work wonders to absorb excess oil, draw out impurities from your pores, and keep breakouts at bay. Or to soften and smooth lines and wrinkles. Don’t forget your Back in summer needs a Bacial (Back Facial)

6. Monthly Treatment: A professional facial treatment is ideal especially if you suffer with any skin issues. Or why not have a Pamper Party book professional facials.  Don’t forget if you have a unwell loved one a pamper treatment like a Facial will really make them feel special

Summer Beauty Tips

  • SPF is Non-Negotiable: This is the #1 rule. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and reapply every 2 hours, especially if you’re swimming or sweating.
  • Add Antioxidants: A Vitamin C serum in the morning can boost your sunscreen’s effectiveness and fight free radical damage from the sun.
  • Also 3 most important Anti-Ageing ingredients you should always use is Retinol A, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C

Protective Gear: A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses are your best accessories.

  • Eat Your Water: Enjoy water-rich foods like watermelon, cucumber, and berries to stay hydrated.

Home Beauty Skincare – For  Winter

Cold winds, low humidity, and indoor heating all conspire to strip moisture from your skin. This leads to a compromised skin barrier, resulting in:

  • Dryness and flakiness
  • Tightness and discomfort
  • Redness and sensitivity
  • A dull, lackluster appearance

Your Winter Mission: Hydrate, Nourish, and Protect.

Your Winter Home Skincare Routine

1. Cleansing: Go Creamy & Gentle
Ditch the foaming cleansers that can strip your skin’s natural oils. Instead, opt for a milky, creamy, or oil-based cleanser. These remove impurities without disrupting your delicate skin barrier.

  • Pro-Tip: Try “double cleansing” in the evening. Start with an oil cleanser to melt away makeup and grime, then follow with a gentle cream cleanser.

2. Toning: Hydration is Key
Skip any alcohol-based toners. Your winter toner should be a hydrating essence or mist that adds a layer of moisture back into the skin.

  • Look for ingredients like: Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin, Rosewater.

3. Moisturizing: Thicker is Better
This is where you bring out the heavy-hitters. Swap your lightweight lotion for a richer, thicker cream. This creates a protective barrier to lock in moisture and shield your skin from the cold. As well apply Anti-Aging Massage Techniques when moisturising. For Mature Skin also add a serum lotion every 2nd night.

  • Look for ingredients like: Ceramides, Shea Butter, Peptides, and Hyaluronic Acid.

  • Pro-Tip: Apply your moisturizer to slightly damp skin to trap even more hydration. For extra nourishment, press a few drops of a facial oil (like Rosehip, Jojoba, or Marula oil) on top of your moisturizer.

4. Weekly Treat: The Hydration Bomb Mask
Once a week, treat your skin to a deeply nourishing mask to combat dryness and restore its glow.

Winter Home Beauty  Tips

  • Use a Humidifier: Place one in your bedroom to add moisture back into the air while you sleep.
  • Lukewarm Showers: Hot water strips your skin’s oils. Keep your showers and face-washing short and lukewarm.
  • Don’t Skip SPF: The sun’s UVA rays are present year-round and can cause aging. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning.
  • Hydrate from Within: Drink plenty of water and herbal teas.

Don’t waste money on

the wrong cleanser or moisturiser

In two very simple but important steps I show you how to determine if you’re using the right cleanser & moisturiser. Did you know the average Australian women spend $3600 per year on beauty products.

Also check out The Age Fix- How to Look Ten Years Younger by a leading Plastic surgeon. Telling you which beauty products actually work.

Ist step Cleanser Test

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser about a 10 cents size. Do this first thing in the morning. Pat dry with  soft towel. Now sit down where it’s not too hot or cold for about an 30 to 60 mins. Then look and feel your skin.

1.Normal skin – has no oiliness or flakiness

2. Combination skin – has oil on your T-Zone, large pores and dryness

3. Oily skin – has oil on most areas & large pores. Foaming or Gel cleansers

4. Acne Prone skin – has breakouts, oiliness, redness, sensitive and or dryness. Use AM a gentler cleanser. Then PM a more deeper cleanser.

5. Dry Skin – has some flakiness, tightness and small pores.

6. Sensitive skin – has some redness, rashes or itching. Always use a Sunblock

7. Mature skin – is usually over 40 yrs, fine lines, wrinkles and or sagging skin.

Basically if your skin feels ok you have normal skin. If it feels tight it’s probably dry. Or if it tends to feel oily or looks shiny its oily skin. But if you have both then you might have combination skin.

Home Beauty Skincare

2nd Step Moisturiser test

Next apply your moisturiser usually about a 10 cents size. Again basically if your skin feels ok it’s normal. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser about a 10 cents size.

Do this first thing in the morning. Pat dry with  soft towel. Now sit down where it’s not too hot or cold for about an 30 to 60 mins. Then look and feel your skin.

1. Normal skin – your moisturiser should not feel heavy or leave you feeling tight

2. Oily skin – it shouldn’t leave a greasy feeling. Gel or Non-Comedogenic moinsturiser are ideal for O/C/A skins

3. Combination skin – it shouldn’t feel greasy on your t-zone or tight in other areas.  Apply less to your oilier areas and more to drier areas

4. Acne Prone skin –  similar to combination skin not a heavy feeling on oilier areas or tightness on drier areas. First apply your acne treatment before your moisturiser.

5. Dry Skin – it should absorb straight into the skin & relive any dryness.

6. Sensitive skin – it shouldn’t leave skin irritated, stingy or red. Spritz throughout the day with a Moisturising Spray

7. Mature skin – Similar to normal skin type your moisturiser should not feel heavy or leave you feeling tight. Ideal to use a treatment serum first.  Mature skin can also be slightly C/O/D/S as well

If after your 2nd step you’re still not certain of your skin type. Book yourself a Salon or Mobile Facial Treatment. Then your therapist can diagnose your skin type. If you’re having a facial before a special occasion coming up allow a week before your Beauty Treatment. Espically if you have allergies or sensitive skin. Or having extractions done.

Don’t forget your Eye and Lip Treatments

Remember your Eyes and Lips need attention too. A good Eye or Lip treatment is vital. As your skin is the thinniest on your eye area. Always lightly cleanse your eye area. For small bumps under the eyes use a gentle scrub. When using your face scrub always include your lips.

Moisturising only ever use an Eye Cream. To soften fine Lines and wrinkles try an Eye or Lip Mask. Include your lip area when moisturising your face. If you have dark circles just give yourself a regular mini eye massage to increase blood circulation. For those thin top lips try a good Lip Plumping product to increase the volume

  5. Rinse off with lukewarm water and follow with your moisturizer.

Home Beauty Makeup Tips

  1. Your eyes and lips need extra hydration too. If you usually use an Eye Gel for Summer then try an Eye cream or serum.
  2. For lips always keep a chapstick and or lip moisturiser handy for Winter
  3. Also be careful with long hot showers as that can dry you skin out even more.
  4. As well as your Foundation you might look at changing.  For normal to dry skins try a cream or liquid foundation. Oily and combination you might need use an oil free foundation
